The Oscars award has been postponed for two months due to the worldwide COVID-19.
The award, which was earlier set to be held in February 2021, has been shifted to April 2021. Hence, the 93rd edition of the Oscars is set for April 25 next year.
And one of the movies, either “Aama” or “Sarita” will be Nepal’s official entry for the International Feature category.
Aama is a 2020 Nepali drama film, directed and written by Dipendra K. Khanal. The film is produced by Sharmila Pandey under the banner of DS Digital.
Aama stars Mithila Sharma, Surakshya Panta in the lead roles. The film is about the relationship between mother and daughter. It was a box office success in Nepal.
Whereas, Sarita is directed and written by Sergio Basso. The movie shows the life of Bhutanese refugees in a refugee camp in Nepal.
The semi-documentary musical follows 13-year-old Sarita on her search for the history of her people and their expulsion.
After Dashain, the Nepali film selection committee will have to choose and send the movie to the Oscars.
